Project location(s):

Project Overview

This project aims to enhance the Youth First Kenya (YFK) program by addressing barriers to girls’ education and promoting gender equity. The program, set to run for two years, targets to increase school enrollment, retention and performance rates of junior school learners especially girls through community advocacy, policy implementation and education support mechanisms.

The Reducing Gender-Based Barriers to Girls’ Education and Skills project will create a sustainable, gender-transformative impact on girls’ education and skills in Kenya. By leveraging Basic Needs Basic Rights Kenya’s (BNBR) expertise and the proven YFK program, the project will reduce gender-based barriers to education, foster resilience and life skills, and promote community-driven solutions for lasting change.

By increasing access to scholarships, school supplies, and promoting flexible scheduling and innovative delivery of education/mentoring programs, the project will support the academic success of underprivileged girls. Community advocacy campaigns will raise awareness about the importance of girls’ education, leveraging local media to highlight success stories, tackle cultural/societal norms and drive policy changes.
